The application is covered by a formal Disaster Recovery Policy and Data Backup Policy, which together define how we restore services after a security incident or infrastructure failure and how critical data is backed up and recovered. When an incident or failure risks prolonged unavailability (typically >24 hours), the CEO formally activates the Disaster Recovery Plan and appoints a DR team. This team first restores critical components (application servers, background workers, and databases), verifies that recent backups are available, rebuilds the environment in an unaffected region/availability zone, validates core business flows (login, dashboard, transactions), and then cuts over traffic while closely monitoring for 24 hours. A structured post-mortem follows, with root-cause analysis, runbook updates, and customer notification where data may have been impacted. Backups are taken and managed in line with the Data Backup Policy: all non-derived critical data is included; storage and database instances receive daily incremental backups and weekly full backups, retained for at least 90 days. Backup schedules are approved by the Head of IT, logs are monitored, failed backups are re-run the next working day, and data is stored centrally with strict access controls to support the DR process. The DR Policy requires periodic testing, including actual restores from backup and tabletop exercises, to ensure that the documented recovery steps remain effective and executable.
