How APIs are secured (encryption, authentication, authorisation, rate limiting)
How APIs are secured (encryption, authentication, authorisation, rate limiting)
  • All Empuls APIs are exposed only over HTTPS with TLS 1.2; there is no plain-text endpoint.
  • Clients authenticate using signed OAuth2 bearer tokens or time-bound API keys, which are mapped to roles/tenants so that every call is authorised against Empuls RBAC.
  • An API-gateway layer enforces per-client rate limits and throttling (e.g., requests per second, burst limits) to protect against abuse and denial-of-service patterns.

Security headers in API responses

  • API responses include standard security headers such as HSTS, X-Frame-Options, X-Content-Type-Options, and strict Cache-Control to reduce the risk of clickjacking, MIME sniffing, and caching of sensitive content.
  • CORS headers are configured to only allow approved origins and methods when the APIs are called directly from browser applications.

API - IP source restriction

  • For server-to-server integrations like your organisation’s core banking or online store, Empuls can enforce IP allow-listing at the WAF/load balancer layer, so only traffic from registered your organisation source ranges is accepted.
  • Additional network controls (security groups, VPC rules) restrict backend services to private subnets and block direct internet access.

Secure storage of API keys

  • API keys and service credentials are never hard-coded; they are stored in encrypted secrets stores (e.g., cloud secrets manager backed by KMS) and injected into services at runtime.
  • Access to these secrets is restricted to specific microservices via least-privilege IAM roles, and keys can be rotated without code changes.

Tracking and monitoring of API usage

  • All API calls are logged with timestamp, tenant, endpoint, client ID, status code, and latency into central logging systems.
  • Dashboards and alerts monitor error rates, unusual call volumes, and access from unexpected locations; suspicious patterns can be investigated or blocked at the gateway/WAF level.

How does Empuls manage encryption keys securely?

Empuls uses AWS Key Management Service (KMS) to centrally manage all encryption keys, with tenant isolation, automatic rotation, and ISO 27001:2022…

Does Xoxoday Empuls encrypt data in transit and at rest?

Xoxoday Empuls encrypts data in transit via TLS 1.3 and data at rest with AES-256, using AWS KMS for secure key management.
